The irresistible, binding, and sometimes elusive feeling that drives us is also the beating heart of the finest stories in world literature. Four esteemed novelists share what love is in different forms in a conversation celebrating the intricacies and complexities of various relationships. Dionne Brand’s latest novel, Theory, depicts passionate love affairs interspersing academic life. Kathy Page also follows romantic love, revealing how the romantic and platonic intermingle during a seventy-year-long marriage. Writer and actor Sarah Winman’s Tin Man is a story of friendship between genders and ages. Jordan Tannahill explores a complex, deeply loving relationship between mother and son in his lauded Liminal. This feeling drives us over all else. Come revel in it with these savvy minds.

Mandy Len Catron writes about love and love stories at The Love Story Project and teaches English and creative writing at UBC.

This event is organized in collaboration with the Canada Council for the Arts to celebrate the finalists and winners of the Governor General’s Literary Awards.
